A Happy St. David's Day to you! 🏴
St. David is the patron saint of Wales. To celebrate the day, people can wear a daffodil and/or a leek; the national emblems of Wales.
"While preaching to a crowd in the village of Llanddewi Brefi, David is thought to have performed his most famous miracle: some of the crowd were finding it difficult to hear the sermon, when a white dove landed on David’s shoulder. As it did, the ground on which he stood is said to have risen up to form a mighty hill, making it possible for the gathering crowd to finally see and hear him. The dove became St. David’s emblem, often appearing in his portraits and on stained-glass windows depicting him. Today, a church stands on the crest of the special hill."
This is my display this year, with a newly acquired stitched daffodil cloth that I bought from Needleworkers Delight on a sale they had on their display items. It's so beautiful!
I made Welsh cakes today, and they turned out okay. I used a different recipe from the one I usually use and it made a smaller batch. I think my original recipe tastes better though.
And tonight? Cream of Leek Soup and Welsh Rarebit.
I just finished stitching this sweet little daffodil and painted the frame since it was too dark before.
An oldie, but a goodie, the series I have yet to fully finish!
I thought with the crazy weather we've been having that our daffodils might actually bloom in time, but nope. I have seen them in other yards, but ours just isn't warm enough I guess!
Today I'll be heading to Havre de Grace, which happens to be the twin city of Mumbles, Wales, where my cousin lives!

That is a very good effort on the Sat David’s Day front. We have actually come over to Wales today as our lodge park opens today for the season. It is cloudy but dry which is good enough for us 😀

Interesting about daffodils and leeks which seem like an odd combination.
I was puzzled about the red dragons until I realized they were a nod to the flag.
To my eternal regret I didn't make it to either Ireland or Wales on my two trips and now it's too late to even contemplate it.

If it's any consolation, the daffodils in my neighbourhood started blooming on 27th February so looked lovely on 1st March (last year they bloomed on 1st February!)
So glad you were able to sample, in more ways than one, a little bit of Wales in the US.

Your Welsh cakes look very tasty. My vase is now filled with daffodils and will be through to Easter. We had chicken and leek casserole with dumplings and a tot of Welsh whisky.
Lovely post given me nice memories of our trip in 1987 to Wales visiting friends in Conway. I can see my lovespoons every day and love to use my place mats with watercolors of castles and country. So many great visits (Portmeirion, Anglesey, Betws-y-Coed ...). Thanks for sharing. xxx
