Oh joy, this is how I started the new year. I had two bags of floss for two HAED patterns, and then some.
I ran out of floss bobbins and don't really like the plastic ones I have. I didn't feel like going to the store for just that so I thought I would improvise. Instead of tossing last year's calendar away, I "recycled" it. I know you can't see the pictures when the floss is wound on, but that's okay, it's pretty sturdy.
When I ran out of those, I made more from card stock that I had. I just had to cut the sides to fit it in the boxes and chose not to punch holes in them, I don't use them anyway. They're not quite as sturdy as the bought ones, but much better than some others I've used.

Then came winding time. It only took me about 2 days!
Any fun ideas for what to do with these?
The first one I'm starting with is a mini.
And the big one.
The big double box holds all the DMC colours and the three boxes behind it holds all the duplicates, almost another full set. The floss on the left is extra, extra, and I'm not doing those.
Then I have my variegated stash. I group them by colour so it's easier for me to find what I'm trying to match. I know it isn't the prettiest way to store them, but it works.
And taking care of that mess showed me I do have a table in my room!
The only thing left is cleaning this out... again. I feel like I'm forever trying to straighten this up, although when the doors are shut I really don't care!
But that's another post...

Cabinet? If you can find stuff, I say just shut the doors! I did a ton of winding in the fall, at least I thought so till I saw how much you've just done (but I always feel like it takes forever). No ideas on the DMC labels, though I love the sound they make when a bunch of them rattles together.
I like the way you have the overdyeds grouped by color - that must be great when you're trying to substitute. Mind are in the little clear bags and alphabetical - good for finding a specific one, but bad when looking for "a nice green."
You organizing is great. I might even take a few of your ideas. I do like the idea of organizing the over-dyed threads by color.
That's a lot of floss! But now you're set up and ready to go, so have fun.
I'm all for recycling anyway you can, so I really like that you upcycled your calendar.
OMG! I love your craft room. I need to do a lot of organizing also. Maybe this year.
You have the most gorgeous craft room I have EVER seen my friend. ♥
Love your two new HAEDs and look forward to watching their progress. Great job on the organizing! It's a pain but I know I feel so proud afterall. I literally just stand and look at my new organized space and smile haha.
You have a wonderful room for your stitching stuff! Is it a former dining room, a bedroom...? Whatever, love all the furniture too! I use floss bags for my DMC, so I can just put the half-strands and pieces in them and not throw them out. And same for the overdyeds, except I use paper CD covers. Works for me! Good luck with the HAEDs! And... I will be doing major moving of stuff, because in the spring we are getting new carpet! I have to move a living room and a bedroom into another bedroom... I have NO idea how that's gonna work!! And have to move my office into the downstairs living room I guess... Gives me a headache to think about it! But the carpet is over 26 years old! It is time! Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
Love your two new projects. That was a mass bobbinating job, but now you are ready to go! Look forward to seeing your progress.
Two days? That is why I don't bobbinate! Great recycling though. I make thread holders out of cornflakes boxes. I do wish I had a specific craft area. I have a cupboard in the utility room for most of the stuff, the rest is in boxes in the corner of the bedroom and the daily stuff is next to the kitchen table where I stitch.
Love your new projects Astrid. I feel for you with the bobbin winding. I have done that before.

Awesome organization skills, Astrid. You must have been a librarian in a previous life! ;) And your stitching room is simply amazing - I can only imagine the many wonderful projects that are going to come to life in that room! :)
Well done getting organized and getting 2 more projects ready. My craft area is like that too, in need of organizing every few months.
Great way to recycle and make bobbins, I can just imagine you uncovering a lovely pic of your family as the thread is stitched....how lovely. Your room looks superb. Nice new projects you are starting.
