A Treasure Found in Ellicott City 🧶

Last Friday, Karen and I had a shopping and lunch date in Ellicott City to celebrate her birthday a little early.

We found a peek-a-boo bunny on Main Street.

Oh my, look who popped up in one of the fun restaurant windows!

Now here's the treasure I found, it's Karen and I! 😆
I thought the glass was dirty on the outside, but it actually seems to be under the glass.

Originally it said Xmas 1933, but between buying it and bringing it home, it now looks like this.

So, since it's already been torn, do I try and take it apart to clean it? I certainly don't want to damage it if I do that, and obviously won't know until I do. Thoughts or suggestions?
I've thought about stitching Karen a smaller version, but haven't had any luck finding a chart like it... no real surprise since it's from the 30's!

What a treat ... to get out and about ... and with another person😃. Just a thought regarding the cross stitch pattern ... if you take a photograph of it you can perhaps input it into one of those websites that converts photos into cross stitch patterns ... might be worth a try ... good luck 😃

I can't see well enough at the moment to be able to tell if the design is on paper or on fabric. If it's fabric, you could remove it from the frame and try soaking it in a solution of Blue Dawn dish soap and warm water. Leave it overnight and rinse thoroughly. It must be the blue version of Dawn - nothing else seems to work as well.

Yes, I would take it out and clean it. I love this piece!

I love the peek-a-boo bunny and the cross stitch picture is lovely. My thoughts? Fix the back with some cardboard but leave the picture, its grubbiness just adds to its charm, and if there's any possibility that it could be worth something at sometime, if only a few pounds, then cleaning it could devalue it

I agree that you should take it out and clean it, it's not old enough to be antique so you can only improve it.
It would be really easy to chart yourself and stitch it again. A computer will just pixelate it and use 2000 colours!

It sounds like a wonderful day with a friend! Not sure what I would do . Probably wash it , 1933 is not like say an 1804 sampler!!

Oh look at the bunny, he is adorable! I too would try to clean it in some blue Dawn. Once it is dry you may be able to use the piece as a "chart" to stitch it again since it doesn't look too complicated. Good luck!
