Friday's Stitching Ground 🧜‍♀️

Today was a blah day, cloudy and a bit rainy. So much for pulling weeds, hopefully tomorrow.

Finally, I'm stitching the backside! It shouldn't take too long, then I can attempt to put it together. Any suggestions?

I like the way they turned out and I'm glad I changed their hair colour. I'm not sure if I like the green bubbles by the fish, I stitched the top one but I'm not sure they're staying.

This weekend I should have been stitching at the beach with a great, fun group of ladies, but it was cancelled due to this darn virus. I wonder how long it will take to get things back to normal, or will it ever really be normal again?
So I had to settle for this, it's as close to the beach as I could get!

Have you had any retreats or stitching gatherings cancelled? I've had three cancelled and am hoping the one in August and the ones in October will still be on!

  1. I agree with the hair colour change - I like it better. I've never made a biscornu but I'm sure if you were to google the term there would be instructions on assembly. And...as a little side note....Pamela Kellogg will be putting out a 2021 calendar of biscornu designs. Not sure of the release date yet but I'll be announcing it on my blog when the time comes. I'm sorry your gathering was cancelled but that seems to be the wise course of action at present. Our quilt guild meeting was cancelled on Monday and I suspect May and June will be as well.

  2. Astrid: I think if you do bubbles by all the fish it will be perfect.
    I love Biscornu's.

  3. Hope about using glass beads for the bubbles and then the same beads around the edge of the biscornu when you sew it together?

Sorry to hear the retreat is cancelled. It is a shame when you have nbeen looking forward to it.

  4. I love the hair color on the mermaids and I like the idea of glass beads.

I've only done one biscornu and it was a little fiddly, but not that hard. You do a row of backstitching on each piece and then sew the two pieces together by whipping the backstitches together with the corners in opposite directions.

I'm sorry your retreats were cancelled, but hopefully the ones in October will still take place.

  6. I have never attempted a biscornu but maybe Vonna of the Twisted Stitcher might have a tutorial. I used her flatfold tutorial and it was excellent.
I have never been to a retreat but hope to someday, I hope your future ones go on as planned.

  7. I think the mermaids look great and it will look good with or without the bubbles. I am NOT a bead person so I am not sure if that will work or not. I have completed exactly ONE biscornu and all I can suggest is make sure you have the holes lined up right while you are stitching it. I am not sire the kitty likes being a table!

  8. One time when I needed bubbles, I used beads. Just a thought! So sorry about your retreats. I had nothing scheduled but our trip to the coast is on hold for the time being. My DH and I like to go over to the Pacific(2 hours away) a few times each year.

  9. Sorry you are missing the fun retreats. You know it really hit me hard to miss mine. Biscornu's I don't think are that hard once you start it. If you need any help just email me and I'll do my best to help. I love them. No sewing machine required.

  11. I like Jo' idea of glass beads for the bubbles, that would be a great addition. Not sure I like the green bubbles.
Safety first, hopefully when your next retreat happens all will be well again, not sure if we will be normal ever again.

  12. Congrats on finishing the mermaids and starting on the back of the biscornu. I also agree with adding beads for the bubbles and around the outside. :)
